An important point in the treatment of neck pain is exercise. However, this must be done correctly and in a healthy amount. Our upper neck area is a complicated structure. Its job is to hold the head, which weighs around five kilograms, upright and to rotate, lower and raise it flexibly in all directions. Muscles, tendons and joints play a crucial role in this. These must be trained so that the interaction of elasticity and muscle strength is perfectly coordinated. Continuous movement of the entire upper spine area is the best way to do this. Neck pain can be prevented with simple exercises that should be performed daily. If the neck area is very tense, a targeted massage can help to loosen and relieve neck pain. Applying an ice pack or taking non-prescription medication such as paracetamol is also helpful for acute neck pain. It is always important to avoid sitting in a tense position for long periods of time; instead, relax your posture every now and then, sit up straight and consciously take time to relax. If you have severe neck pain over a longer period of time, physiotherapy is recommended. This is the first step to get your neck back to a healthy starting position. In addition, the affected area is strengthened with strengthening exercises and practical exercises to be done at home are taught. In extreme cases, unfortunately, only drug therapy with prescription drugs such as painkillers and muscle relaxants helps. This should be done over a short period of time and only under medical supervision. Acupuncture and injections with anti-inflammatory substances must also be well-coordinated with your Doctor We will be happy to advise you on this during our consultation hours.
