sigmoidoscopy | The sigmoidoscopy is a partial colonoscopy, i.e. a partial colonoscopy. In both examinations, a flexible endoscope, about the thickness of a little finger, is inserted into the intestine. For a sigmoidoscopy, only a small enema is necessary shortly before the examination; for a colonoscopy, a complete bowel cleansing with medication is carried out the day before the bowel examination.Diseases that can be detected by a colonoscopy include colon polyps, intestinal inflammation or colon cancer. If you have been given a sedative injection, your ability to react will be partially impaired and you will not be allowed to drive or operate machinery for the next 24 hours. If you have a known heart valve defect, you may need to take an antibiotic before the examination (endocarditis prophylaxis). |
