Concept Definition
Long-term blood pressure measurement

Within the Long-term blood pressure measurement Blood pressure is measured repeatedly over a period of 24 hours, creating a daily blood pressure profile. Blood pressure is recorded every 15 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes at night.

The examination is particularly indicated if office hypertension - also known as white coat syndrome - is suspected.

It helps in monitoring the course of drug therapy of Hypertension and is important for assessing the day and night rhythm of blood pressure.

The blood pressure monitor is very small and can be easily attached to a belt. We give the patient a log in which they record their symptoms and activities during the recording period. This allows us to link any changes in blood pressure that may occur to the corresponding symptoms or activities.

The recorded data is analyzed in the practice using a computer and discussed with the patient.
